Riverside Legal Aid

History of Riverside Legal Aid

Riverside Legal Aid, officially named Public Service Law Corporation, was founded in 1982 by the Riverside County Bar Association. It's mission was very much the same as it is now, to serve the legal needs of the under-served population in Riverside County. Riverside Legal Aid assisted indigent litigants in obtaining access to justice primarily by providing one-on-one consultations with licensed attorneys, legal document preparation in its Riverside office, as well as providing limited scope attorney representation for those the most in need. Originally, only the services of volunteer attorneys were used and the office contained only two support staff employees.

Today, Riverside Legal Aid assists over 3,000 clients each year and proudly serves our community with a team of over 30 paid staff, including attorneys and support staff, as well as utilizing the generous assistance of volunteers. Currently, Riverside Legal Aid assists client in the areas of family law, probate small estates, conservatorships, guardianships, consumer debt defense, and eviction defense, as well as has bankruptcy clinics in Riverside, Indio, and Temecula.

In 2022, Riverside Legal Aid was recognized as Non-Profit of the Year by California State Senator, Richard D. Roth, for its efforts in assisting low-income residents including hundreds of University of California, Riverside students in understanding the changing landlord tenant laws during the COVID-19 pandemic.
